Happy Tails of the Week

It seems like we say this a lot, but it was another big week for TLC!

10 dogs were adopted and started their new lives and we welcomed 15 dogs into foster homes. They came to us from Mississippi on Saturday morning.

Our annual Raffles for Ruffs fundraiser took place Saturday night. We had a great turnout and raised a lot of money to help us save more dogs. If you couldn’t make it to Raffles for Ruffs, you can put October 6, 2019 on your calendar for our next big fundraiser: Miles for Mutts. If you can’t make it to our events but still want to support TLC, click here.

It’s April Fools but here at TLC, we don’t fool around when it comes to giving our dogs their forever homes. Don’t get us wrong, we have fun doing it but we don’t pull pranks when it comes to keeping our promise “until they all have a home...”

This week we gave 20 dogs new beginnings and we’re all proud of the hard work our fosters and volunteers put in. This week we also held a Meet & Greet at Giggy Bites Bakery and Marketplace. Visit them and check out all the great homemade treats for your dog and other great stuff. Tell them their friends from TLC say hi!

Watch our events page on Facebook to see where we’ll be. If you want us to come to your area, let us know!

This week we’d like to talk a bit about a couple of countdowns we have going on at To Love A Canine Rescue.

First, we’re counting down to one of our big fundraisers of the year. Raffles 4 Ruffs happens April 6, 2019 at the Quality Inn & Suites in West Chester, PA. This year in addition to over 70 raffle baskets, you can buy into a poker tournament and win a cash prize. The current prize pool for the poker tournament is $750! Come try your skills and win cash!

Second, we’re counting down to our 3,000th dog adopted. Currently we’ve saved 2,916 lives and we’re well on our way to 3,000! Fill out an application today and maybe you can adopt the 3,000th dog!

It takes a special heart to foster...

This week we’d like to let you hear from one of our fosters about how a special dog touched their hear and let you see a little bit of why we do what we do. “You got adopted today buddy and I couldn’t be happier. I didn’t know when we brought you home the first night and gave you your first bath that you would return to us so that we could bring you to your forever family. But I think you needed to show us that what we are doing is important. And because you are such a good boy, you showed us we can do it even when we weren’t sure. We can help others find their homes. Walking in this morning I knew. I knew we found your forever family. And I knew you would be loved. It wasn’t easy to leave you. And although my heart broke this morning, I drove away with happy tears. You will always have a piece of our heart. And thanks to you, we will do this again.”

Another way is attending one of our fundraisers. Raffles For Ruffs is less than a month away. Over 50 baskets will be raffled off this year and if we’ve added a poker tournament this year. Win a cash prize at poker or win a raffle basket or two!! We hope to see you here.

The winter weather last week didn’t stop TLC pups from finding their furever homes. To be honest, we’re pretty sure no amount of snow could keep TLC’s amazing adopters away from their new furry family members!

Did you know that one of the easiest ways you can support TLC is by leaving a review on Facebook or Google? Check out what some of our reviewers have to say:

I am so thankful for the amazing staff here. They went the extra mile to make sure the adoption process was quick and easy. Now thanks to them I have an amazing new addition to my family. Thank you guys for making it possible to have such an amazing little furry baby like Palmer!
— Holly P.
I love this organization for so many reasons! Everyone is passionate about saving lives, connecting the rescues with loving furever families, and putting the well-being of the dogs above everything. [...] As an adopter-turned-volunteer, I cannot recommend TLC enough.
— Kate B.
I have worked with TLC on a personal, and professional basis, and find them to be one of the best! You can tell that their hearts are with every animal they are rescuing and take great pride in what they do. My work had also hosted and event with them and they went above and beyond to make sure it went smoothly. Highly suggest!

We have a special edition Happy Tails post today, courtesy of Erin and Timothy Jenesky!

It came to me that every time I lose a dog they take a piece of my heart with them. And every new dog who comes into my life gifts me with a piece of their heart. If I live long enough, all the components of my heart will be dog, and I will become as generous and loving as they are.

When people know you foster dogs, they always inevitably say or ask one of two things: “you should keep him/her!” or “how can you keep saying goodbye to all of them?”. It’s so easy at times to tell people that if we kept them all, we couldn’t save others. That saying goodbye means we can save another. That the greater importance is making sure the dogs always find their respite with us until their final destination.

But then a dog like Afton comes along. And challenges you to answer those questions and statements with the same confidence you always do. A dog like Afton makes you hesitate, makes you question why you might give him to someone else. Until you see him with his people, his family, his forever. And that’s what makes fostering worth it.

So we will give those same answers, to those same questions, but we will have tears to choke back this time and maybe other times . But we will do it all over again. Because a dog like Afton, who spent nearly a year in the shelter, who lights up a room when he enters it, who never knew love and a warm place until TLC saved him, is worth the piece of our hearts he took with him.

So we kiss him goodbye as he starts his forever with a beyond PERFECT family and we save the next one. The next one who needs us and who will fill the spot on the dog bed Afton left vacant when he found his forever family. You will always be one of the most special fosters. We love you, Affy. Have the best life imaginable!

To Love A Canine in the Community

TLC volunteers and fosters like taking their dogs out to meet the public. One of the ways we do that are Meet & Greets. The more people who see our dogs, the quicker they find their forever home. We’re out weekly at pet stores to show off our dogs and talk about how people can adopt from us and volunteer and foster with us. Keep an eye out on our Facebook page and our website events page to see where we will be and when we’ll be in your area.

We don’t just visit pet stores. We take our dogs to yoga classes, Pilates classes, community days, high schools and senior living facilities to name a few places. We’re always looking for new places to showcase our dogs. Would you like to have us come to your event? Feel free to contact us and we’ll see if we can make it happenM
