It just takes one!

It just takes one ticket to win a basket during our annual Raffles for Ruffs Fundraiser. However, we sincerely hope you’ll help us fill each basket with tickets as this is one of our two largest fundraisers of the year. All of the wonderful items up for grabs are donated by our generous volunteers and community partners, so all proceeds go directly to helping dogs in need.

Up for grabs will be 135 baskets. We have baskets for everyone: from foodies to kids, adventurers to those who need some pampering and relaxation. If you’re feeling extra lucky, we also have nine Grand Prizes including Phillies and Eagles tickets for our sports “Phanatics.” If cash is your thing, we will have two 50/50 raffles with a 1 in 40 chance at winning $500 in cash.

Raffles for Ruffs is a virtual event with tickets going on sale through our website from April 6th through April 14th. Regular basket tickets are $20 for 25 tickets ($0.80/ticket), Grand Prize tickets are $5 each, and 50/50 tickets are $25 each.

You’ll simply select the number of tickets you want to add to each raffle item, and our website will total your ticket cost for you. Once you are satisfied with your selections, you can complete your checkout. Afterwards, you will receive your ticket numbers by e-mail. Tickets will be drawn on April 26th at 7pm. You can tune in on our website and on YouTube to see if you’re one of our lucky winners!

Thanks to your generosity last year we were able to raise more than $33,000! Let’s see if we can beat that this year. Because TLC is a volunteer organization, these funds are vital to our rescue mission. The money provides food, supplies, and medical expenses for each dog who passes through our foster homes. In 2023 we saved 759 dogs.

If you’ve followed us for some time, you’ll know that we don’t just commit to the “easy” dogs. Many of our dogs require extra treatment such as spay/neuter, heartworm treatment, and in some cases, extensive medical treatment. It is because of the generosity of our followers that we are able to provide every dog with the care they need.

Today we are celebrating the Happy Tails for EIGHT of our current Corinth shelter dogs. They’ve found their furever homes after being overlooked for a collective 4,066 days (more than 11 years combined!) We are also reminded of the countless other dogs still waiting for their chance at happiness, and the unwavering support from our community that allows each of these souls a second chance at a better tomorrow. Wonderful, happy, loving dogs failed by humans and overlooked in a crowded environment.

Paul waited a whopping 814 days.

Stanley waited 546 days and was adopted also as soon as he was available!

Maisey waited close to a year at 277 days.

Alma waited 220 days for a safe place to call home.

Petunia gave birth to puppies at the shelter and waited a total of 149 days for furever.

Brian & Brianne both waited 91 days in outdoor kennels through the winter.

And after an arduous 1,878-day wait, Clarice has finally found her forever home.

Each of these dogs, with their unique personalities and stories, embodies the resilience and hope that define the shelter dog community.

These stories don't end with adoption though. They’re a call to action, a reminder that there are countless other dogs like them waiting for their forever families. So how can you help?

Volunteer Spotlight: Every Single Second of Service

YOU ALREADY KNOW: TLC, a foster-based rescue, needs volunteer foster parents to house dogs in our care.  More Foster Parent Volunteers = More Saved Dogs

WE KNOW:  Fostering isn’t for everyone…but there are other TLC volunteer roles that are just as critical to our rescue initiatives. Volunteer for five minutes or five hours, and every single second of service benefits a dog who needs help. 

WE WANT YOU TO TAKE CARE OF YOURSELF: Seriously.

Volunteering is good for YOU. TLC volunteers feel joy from helping others, making new like-minded, dog-loving friends, finding a sense of purpose, and it can reduce their stress levels.  Being a Do-Gooder Does YOU Good!

Everyone is great at something…and we guarantee that TLC dogs will 100% benefit from whatever it is that YOU excel at.  For example:

• Trying to walk 10,000 steps per day? Welcome dogs off of their long transport and be the first introduction to their new tomorrow while working towards your goal.

• Have the gift of gab? If you’re someone who can talk to anyone about anything, become a Meet & Greet Event Lead! You’ll get to visit cool venues (breweries, dog bakeries, local community fairs, pet stores, and more) while talking to people about TLC, our dogs, and our mission. Not ready to lead an event, but “jonesing for a dog fix”?  Be an Event Handler - by the time the event ends, you’re stocked up on dog kisses and surely will leave wanting even more.  BONUS: This also helps to socialize our dogs, you sly Do-Gooder, you! 

• Are you a TikTok, Facebook, or Instagram wiz? Do you enjoy writing? Like graphic design, video creation, or coming up with catchy slogans?  TLC’s Marketing Team is ALWAYS looking for contributors to generate content for our website, our monthly newsletter, our social media pages, and more.  And you DO NOT need to be a marketing professional! Can you say #HERO?

• Love to drive? Believe it or not, TLC needs volunteers to taxi our dogs to various appointments.  We sometimes need help to get our dogs where they need to be (a vet appointment, a Meet & Greet event, etc.).  Taxi-ing a dog also provides our foster parents with a well-deserved break!

• Have time and want to make a difference without leaving YOUR home? Our Applications Team ensures that our Adoptables find THEIR perfect home by reviewing online adoption applications and conversing with applicants, and their references. Love to binge-watch Animal Planet but it leaves you feeling unproductive? Become a multi-tasker–do a couple loads of Linen Donation Laundry while you watch.  #Winning

• Delight in Photography? Showcase our dogs’ best selves by taking profile page portraits. Photograph dogs in action at our Meet & Greet Events…your real-time pictures may entice folks to come out and meet our Adoptables in person! They fall in love, apply to adopt, and YOU are immediately a Rockstar!

• Have a knack for event planning? Join one of our committees to help make our biggest fundraisers a huge success! Our Raffles for Ruffs basket raffle would not happen without the brilliant minds and passion of our planning committee! It’s a great place to meet new people, learn about how our non-profit functions and raise money to have an impact on our current and future canine lives! And our Miles for Mutts 5k Run & 1 Mile walk committee kicks off next month!

Once your dog has mastered 'Down”, a fun party trick you can teach your is Roll Over!

• Ask your dog to perform a “down” position in front of you.

• Kneel beside your dog and hold a tasty treat to the side of their head near their nose.

• Move your hand from their nose toward their shoulder, luring them to roll flat on their side.

• Try this a few times and and make sure to praise and treat each time they follow the treat and lie flat on their side with their head on the floor.

• Now continue the movement of your hand, holding a treat, once they are lying flat, from their shoulder to their backbone. This should cause them to roll onto their back.

• Continue the moving the treat hand so they roll onto the other side.

• When they are consistently following the treat all the way around in a “roll over,” add the verbal cue “Roll Over.”

• Gradually reduce the hand motion and treat lure, until your dog can perform the trick on just a verbal cue.

• Remember to still praise and reward your dog’s hard work!

Bonus Tip

Practice often and in different places. Once your dog is happily lying down on command in your home, start to practice in more distracting environments, like the garden or your local park.
